How often should  I post online social media for my book?

Today’s Author Question is from Annie – “Hey Teena, how often should I be posting online for social media marketing for my book? This book was published by a Publisher, not self-published.”

▼ Hi Annie, my first question is, what did your Publisher advise when you asked them about the types of book marketing they’re doing, and the frequency they’ll be doing marketing for the book (this is a “marketing strategy”)?

  • The Publishing company should have a Marketing Checklist for each book, and I recommend all authors ask for a copy of this before signing up with a Publisher (or a book marketing person or agency), so they’ll know that there is a proposed marketing strategy in place.
  • This also helps in working out the ROI (Return On Investment) via analytics on the site/s where the marketing is sending the traffic to (like Pinterest, Facebook, etc).
  • For self-published authors:
    1. how often do you scroll through social media?
    2. Which authors do you follow?
    3. How often do THEY post on the social sites you visit?
    4. Make notes of this and work out which days YOU would like to do marketing for YOUR book.
  • The bottom line is, do whatever is comfortable for you – and the minimum would be ONE post on ONE site EACH week. If you can do more than that, fantastic!
  • If you turn photos of your book into marketing images with a link back to the book, and if  these were published say 3 times  per week, this would be a great start! Check out my tips about book mockups here:

I highly recommend also publishing on:

  1. your Author YouTube Channel
  2. and your Author Pinterest Account, with one Board for each book.
