For quite some time now I've been write a rhyming children's story book about the Curlew birds I came to love whilst living on Coochiemudlo Island.
The book is for pre-schoolers 2 to 5 years old.
The island was quite small - 1km x 1.5 km with several hundred people living there.
When I first heard a Curlew call at dusk, and then heard the other Curlews jump into the chorus, it scared the living daylights out of me! It sounded like a small child was being strangled and it went on for ages!
Despite this shocking introduction, I came to love them and did lots of research.
Over my time on the island I got to know their personalities and quirks, and started writing little poems about them and the other birds on the island.
I'm getting close to finishing the illustrations and publishing my Curlew book, and I'm quite excited!
It's called "Curlew Curlew What's On The Log?", and each double-page spread in the book is about a different animal.
This will be the first in my NEW book Series: "Curlew and Animal Friends in Australia".
