Many new authors wonder, “How does a first time author price a book?”Β – and I understand that all new authors want to do everything right – 100% correct the first time, and do the best job that they can to publish their book.
In reality, most new authors need to do lots of research at different times during the process of writing a book.
Here is my recommendation for working out a price to charge for a book that you are ready to upload and publish on KDP etc.
The quickest and easiest thing to do is to look at very similar books on Amazon and see what they are selling for (this is called “research”)
- πͺ Scroll through and look at 10, 20, 50, 100 books similar to yours, similar number of pages, whether they are coloured or black and white etc etc.
- πͺ Once you decide on the price you apply that in KDP.
- πͺ Give it a couple of weeks. Have more conversations in Facebook groups and other groups and adjust if you think you need to.
- πͺ There is no law or rule, which says anything about the price you must use as a new author. π
Author Research Tip!
π’ If you pop over to the Kindlepreneur.com website, and search for this page – “How to Sell Books on Amazon: 70+ Must-Know Tips for 2025”, it may help you answer some of the other questions you may have. π Best of luck!
Can we change the price later?
π’ YES! On Amazon KDP you can change the price at any time in the future, as many times as you like π
